Begin your day at Sokhna Port
After your cruise ship pulls into port and you disembark, your day of discovery has begun! Your friendly guide will greet you and escort you to your private, air-conditioned vehicle. As you drive from the peaceful waters of the Red Sea and into the heart of Egypt's rich heritage, you will notice the landscape changing from that of the desert to the bustling towns and cities!
The first stop on your itinerary will be the workings of the Dahshur Pyramids. Though they are generally overlooked by travelers, we find them to be interesting and slightly quirky! We will tour the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, which are significant historic monuments documenting the change in pyramid design and construction over time. The Bent Pyramid skylines builder's experimenting, while the Red Pyramid is recognized as the first true smooth sided pyramid built in Egypt.
You will also enjoy the peaceful desert environment as it provides a perfect place for quiet contemplation, away from crowds, as your guide narrates tales of the Pharaoh Sneferu and the evolution of pyramid design in Egypt!
Discover Egypt’s Histories at the NMEC
At last, you will reach the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, a modern facility that makes it easy to appreciated Egypt's histories. Each exhibit progresses chronologically from pre-historic times through modernity, with thousands of years of preoccupations and histories represented in each exhibit. The Royal Mummies Hall at the NMEC is a remarkable space, replete with members of Egypt's famous royal families now at rest. The NMEC's overall configuration is logical and easy to navigate, and the exhibits are interesting, and the quality of the Cairo Museum gives a genuine sense of complexity, richness and depth of Egyptian civilization.
Around midday, you will sit down to lunch at a good local restaurant. This stop provides an opportunity to relax and eat traditional Egyptian food (who can complain about that!) and immerse yourself in local culture and cuisine. If our timing is good (and you have enough energy), we can also have a look at various local shops for souvenirs or a short felucca ride on the Nile.
