Private Half-Day Tour to Dahshur and Meidum pyramids

Overview

Discover the Beni Suef Governorate, which is less well-known than the capital and other bigger towns, by taking a journey to Medium.  One of Beni Suef Governorate's most well-known archeological sites is the Meidum Pyramid.

The Meidum Pyramid is the oldest complete group that has been discovered. There was an outer wall around the pyramid, but it was destroyed. There is the oldest complete funerary temple attached to it in the middle on the eastern side of the pyramid. It contains an ascending road that extends from the funerary temple to the edge of the valley to connect with the valley temple, which is supposed to be located under the agricultural land. Petrie tried to discover it, but the groundwater prevented that.

In the heart of Egypt, where the Nile River flows gracefully through its fine veins, there lies Cairo. Under the view of this country, you may take sailing with a traditional wooden sailboat (felucca) for a few hours, enjoy the enchanting views and wonderful atmosphere all around you. It is also a meditative journey, giving room for travelers to connect with the natural beauty of the river and its surrounding environments.

Itinerary

After you are taken your destination will be the Meidum Pyramid. The Pyramid of Meidum is located approximately 80 km from Cairo. What the Arabs refer to as "the false pyramid" or "el haram el qadab". Its current shape resembles that of a tower. The pyramid of Meidum was attributed to Huni, the last king of the 3rd Dynasty, whose tomb has never been located.

It is assumed that the pyramid was started by King Huni in its step form and his successor Snefru added the revetment, this seems likely, recent research now assumes that the pyramid was built by Snefru based on the extensive graffiti left by New Kingdom visitors on the walls of King Snefru's mortuary temple.

Recent studies seem to confirm that the Meidum pyramid was built in three phases: -

  • The first stage (E1): a 7-tiered step pyramid
  • The second stage (E2): after a few years, the pyramid and we increased it from 7 to 8 tiers.
  • The third stage (E3): the step pyramid was converted into a smooth-sided pyramid.

Flinders Petrie first entered the pyramid in 1881. The entrance to the pyramid a is located on the north face, 11 m above the ground. A long descent b cuts through the masonry of the pyramid to a depth of about fifty meters and leads to a horizontal corridor in which there are two lodges acting as antechambers, to the east and west. At the end of this corridor is a vertical shaft through which one ascends to the unfinished burial chamber c. The ceiling of the burial chamber is corbelled.

After that, we will move to Dahshur. You will visit the Bent Pyramid or the Southern Pyramid. There are two pyramids in Snefru: one in Dahshur to the south and one to the north.  The distance between the two pyramids is just one kilometer.  The height of each pyramid is around 105 m.
The Dahshur pyramid complex includes:

1. The surrounding wall (discovered in 1952)

2. The rhomboidal pyramid

3. The satellite pyramid

4. The funerary temple

5. The rising road

6. The Valley Temple

After enjoying the monuments of Egypt, you will enjoy the Nile in Cairo, which is a completely different trip from the pyramids. At the end, a driver will take you to your hotel.
