Stopover trip to Sakkara and Memphis from Cairo airport
The Saqqara Necropolis is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt. It contains tombs whose walls are covered with magnificent and exquisite inscriptions, as well as pyramids, temples, and the Serapeum burial chambers. The name “Saqqara” is derived from the necropolis god “Sokar.” Saqqara is also the only necropolis in Egypt that includes tombs dating back to the very beginning of Egyptian history.
It also houses many monuments from the Greco-Roman periods. In 1979, Saqqara was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Therefore, we will not miss the chance to visit this magnificent area, full of fascinating discoveries and home to many ancient dynasties.
To complete this wonderful trip, you will also visit Memphis. When the ancient capitals of Egypt are mentioned throughout the long history of ancient Egypt—in the north, center, and south of the country—the “Capital of Capitals,” Memphis, stands at the forefront, like a crown upon all other capitals. It is the City of Cities, which witnessed the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt by the brave men of Upper Egypt, led by King Scorpion II (of the Predynastic “Zero Dynasty”) and King Narmer. Learn more through our tour from Cairo Airport to visit Saqqara and Memphis.
Upon your arrival, we will pick you up from the airport for a visit to the Saqqara area. We will provide you with a modern private car and a guide who speaks your language fluently and is knowledgeable about ancient Egyptian history to provide you with sufficient information about this civilization.
We will start by going to Saqqara, which is home to multiple pyramid complexes of ancient Egyptian pharaohs from the Third, Fifth, and Sixth Dynasties. We will go to the Saqqara Step Pyramid, which was constructed in the Third Dynasty. You can enter it if you'd like (optional ticket).
After that, we will move on to the Pyramid of Unas, whose history is well-documented through historical sources, including three lists of the ancient Egyptian king dating back to the New Kingdom period. Next, we move on to the Pyramid of Teti, a pyramid constructed from limestone. The Pyramid of Teti was first revealed to modern eyes by the Prussian Egyptologist John Perring in the 1830s. Our last stop in the Saqqara area will be the Mastaba of Kagemni.
We will then go to a restaurant called Valley of the Kings to sample Egyptian dishes, and after that we will continue on to Memphis. The Sphinx statue was carved from red granite, with the body of a lion and the head of a human, representing the divine power of Ramesses II.
Although the head of the Sphinx is severely eroded, it was buried in the sand for thousands of years, which preserved many of the statue's original details. You will then see the colossal statue of Ramesses II, whose possessions were all enormous, reflecting his power and wisdom. Finally, three hours before your flight, you will be transferred to the airport.
