Overnghit tour to visit amazing pyramids in Egypt

Overview

Overnight tour to visit amazing pyramids in Egypt

The pyramids are perhaps the first image that comes to mind when we imagine Egypt and its ancient heritage...Before the temples of Luxor and the Nile Valley, before the sumptuous tombs of illustrious kings and queens, beautifully colored, there were the pyramids, these incredible stone monsters pointing towards the sky and the sun god.

They inspire fascination and admiration as much as they question the construction techniques of the ancient Egyptians. One thing is certain: they are a must-see on any trip to Egypt. We are best known for the pyramids of Giza, with their extraordinary dimensions and their magnificent Sphinx, but there are others just as remarkable that I invite you to discover. Let's go on an exciting journey to the land of the pyramids. For all these reasons, we have provided you with a trip to enjoy the country of history and civilization.

Among the mysteries surrounding these precious monuments are those of their construction: how were the enormous blocks moved there? And how were such perfect structures built at that time? There are many theories on the subject... Some even attribute it to extraterrestrial presence!

Itinerary

We will pick you up in a comfortable private car from your location to visit the most important landmarks. We will visit the Pyramid of Khufu. The pyramids are not constructed to create beautiful monuments.

After that, we go to the Khafre pyramid.  Due to the fact that it still has some of its limestone covering, the slightly smaller pyramid of Khafre is immediately identifiable.  Its location on a sort of rocky elevation makes it appear taller than its neighbor...The smallest pyramid, the Menkaure pyramid, is "only" 65 meters high.

The Sphinx measures 73 meters long, 14 meters wide, and 20 meters high... It's made from a single block, its body and head carved from the rock itself!  It is therefore the largest monolithic structure in the world. Built around 2500 BC, it is generally attributed to Khafre, although some theories attribute it to Khufu.
A few centuries after its construction, the body was entirely covered in painted plaster, of which a few remaining colors can still be seen in places.

As for its missing nose, that's not Obelix's fault; that's fake news, or rather, a conspiracy. It's also not the fault of Napoleon and his troops (as was commonly said) for misaimed cannon aim. It seems to be much older and to be a case of vandalism during the Mamluk era, when a religious leader saw it as a sign of idolatry on the part of Egyptian peasants.

Our trip also includes a visit to Saqqara. It is the first known pyramid in Egypt and dates back to 2600 BC. Designed by the brilliant architect Imhotep, it is the funerary monument of Pharaoh Djoser, king of the Third Dynasty.

A few kilometers south of Saqqara, two pyramids await you, one of which has a strange shape. Two pyramids belonging to our good old King Snefru. Wait a minute, the guy had a pyramid built in Meydum, which he abandoned on a whim, then had not one but two other pyramids rebuilt? The workers must have been happy.

What happened? Good old Snefru, who wanted a flashy pyramid in Meydum, realized that, after all, he was going to be a bit far from the Saqqara necropolis, a bit alone in the world (50 kilometers, that's not exactly next door). So he decided to abandon Meydum to have a new pyramid rebuilt in Dashur, located only 10 kilometers south of Saqqara. Discover with us about Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid.
Meals: Lunch at a local restaurant.

We start the day by visiting different pyramids, where your driver and guide will wait for you in front of the hotel in a private air-conditioned car to start your trip. Completely unknown, they are located a few kilometers from Meydoum. Their appearance gives the impression more of a small rocky mountain than a pyramid, but they have something surprising and intriguing about them.

These are the last pyramids to have been built in Egypt and date from the Middle Kingdom (while all the other pyramids date from the Old Kingdom). But also because for their construction, the architects abandoned the cut stone structure to use raw brick (a mixture of dried earth, straw, and water). Due to erosion over the centuries, the bricks crumbled, hence the current appearance of the pyramids.

Then we move to the Meidum pyramid. After the construction of Saqqara, the pyramid became the example of a funerary monument that subsequent pharaohs attempted to emulate. King Snefru, father of Khufu (the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza), took the plunge and had the Pyramid of Meydum built for his final resting place... It is also a stack of several mastabas, all covered with a smooth facade. The facade collapsed a few centuries later, giving it its current appearance: a floor strewn with rubble (the smooth covering of the pyramid) and an atypical shape (its original structure). After enjoying more interesting information about this tour, we will return to your hotel again.
