Itinerary

Our trip to Siwa today begins early because we have to reach Siwa before sunset. We will be there with a private car suitable for your group size and will pick you up from your hotel to take you to Matrouh first. Between Cairo and Matrouh, we will stop along the way so you can stretch your legs, drink coffee or tea, and visit some shops selling souvenirs or books.

After that, the next stop will be the coastal city of Matrouh, where we will enjoy a fish meal from its seas. If we have time, a guide will take you to see the crystal clear waters that this city enjoys. You can stroll through the fish market, learn about the different types of fish, and compare them with those found in your country. Between Matrouh and Siwa, the oasis of sunset, as our Egyptian books call it, we will stop for a break to use the bathroom or have something to drink.

Upon your arrival, we will take you to the island of Fatnas, one of the most beautiful natural areas in Siwa, surrounded by trees and distinctive palm trees, and featuring wells and natural springs. Fetnas Island is known as the sunset oasis because it has a magnificent sunset.

When the sun sets, it appears to touch the waters of the lake, making you feel as if you are looking at a masterfully painted picture. Finally, enjoy relaxation and dinner at your hotel.

After sampling Egyptian cuisine at your hotel, the tour will begin and your driver will be waiting at your hotel, ready to take you on your tour to the Mountain of the Dead. After sampling Egyptian cuisine at your hotel, the tour will begin and your driver will be waiting at your hotel, ready to take you to the Mountain of the Dead. You will witness a scene that blends life and death at the same time.

From the top of the mountain, you will see the green colour of the palm trees, and at the bottom of the mountain, you will find tombs bearing drawings that date back thousands of years. Thus, the Mountain of the Dead embodies man's journey between life and death. The Mountain of the Dead contains tombs dating back to the 26th Dynasty, i.e., the period from 664 to 525 BC. The Ptolemies and Romans continued to bury their dead on this mountain. The design of these tombs combines ancient Egyptian and Greek art, and they feature various inscriptions and drawings from the ancient Egyptian era. One of the most famous tombs on the Mountain of the Dead is the tomb of Seamun.

After seeing the most famous Pharaonic tombs of Mount Mawty, we move on to Mount Dakrour to learn about the customs of the country and the most important celebrations held in this region. There are numerous tombs in Mount Dakrour, which are larger than those in Mount of the Dead, and there is the Hassouna Palace, where King Fouad I stayed during his visit to the oasis in 1928.

The people of Siwa celebrated the popular reconciliation festival at Mount Dakrour a few days ago. During this festival, the people of the oasis gather to eat together and settle any disputes between them. After that, we will go on a water tour to bathe. The Salt Lakes will be where we'll begin. Wear your swimsuit and go down to the salt lakes, avoiding contact with the water in your eyes.

Then we will move on to Cleopatra's Eye to bathe as well. Siwa Oasis offers a water experience unlike any other, giving you the opportunity to relax in cool water in the middle of the desert heat. Perhaps the most famous of these is the legendary Cleopatra's Eye, where the Egyptian queen is believed to have once bathed, according to the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority website. After lunch, we will take our last tour of the day to watch the sunset in the vast desert that borders Egypt and Libya.

You will be accompanied by a driver who knows the desert roads well and will stop at a well, then at the excavation site, and finally at a spot where you can watch the sunset while enjoying fruit, Siwi tea, and delicious Siwi dates. Finally, you will return to your hotel to relax in an eco-friendly hotel that will make you feel at ease.

Enjoy a pleasant trip to Shali Fort. The history of the ancient castle and fortress of Shali in the Siwa Oasis, built by the people of Siwa, dates back 800 years. It has recently been restored and the damaged parts rebuilt through the joint efforts of the Egyptian government and the European Union, reviving ancient Shali and declaring it a World Heritage Site.

The fortress of Shali, built on a high hill, is surrounded by a high wall with a main entrance called ‘Bab Inshal’ in the Amazigh language spoken by the people of Siwa, meaning ‘the gate of the city.’ The ancient mosque, one of the oldest in North Africa, was reopened after restoration as part of the restoration of Shali in December 2015, and prayers are still held inside the mosque today.

The ancient mosque is unique in its architectural style worldwide. It is a building made of kersif stone from the year 500 AH, located on top of Mount Edrar, which was built to include the ruins of the ancient city of Chali, and is located on a rectangular area. Next, we move on to the Oracle Temple.

Alexander the Great visited the Temple of Amun in Siwa in 331 BC. He left Alexandria heading west until he reached Marsa Matruh, and from there south to the Siwa Oasis, where the Temple of Amun, also known as the Temple of Prophecy, is located. Alexander the Great asked the priests of the temple to predict the fate of his upcoming military campaigns and whether he would rule the world or not. Their answer was yes, but not for long.

After visiting Siwa, Alexander gave himself the title ‘Son of Amun,’ and images appeared depicting him with two horns on his head, similar to the horns of the Egyptian ram that represents the god Amun. He then returned to Memphis and stayed there for two months before leaving Egypt in the spring of 331 BC, heading for Syria.

Learn more about the rest of this history from your guide.Afterwards, get ready for a barbecue lunch at one of Siwa's most famous restaurants. Then we will return to the hotel where you can relax by the pool and enjoy the surrounding vegetation.

Early in the morning, we will check you out of your hotel. The driver and guide will be waiting for you in front of the hotel to transfer your luggage to the car. We will start moving again to Cairo, and you will stop at the same rest stops to have a drink or use the bathroom.

The ideal timing for booking a day tour can vary depending on several factors, including the destination, the time of year, and the popularity of the tour. Here are some general guidelines to help you decide when to book a day tour:

Peak Season vs. Off-Season: In popular tourist destinations and during peak travel seasons (such as holidays and summer months), day tours tend to fill up quickly. It's advisable to book well in advance, sometimes several months ahead, to secure your spot.

Tour Type and Size: The type and size of the tour can also affect availability. Small-group tours with limited capacity may sell out faster than larger tours. If you prefer a smaller group experience, consider booking in advance.

Specialized Tours: If you're interested in specialized tours, such as private tours, photography tours, or tours with specific themes (e.g., culinary tours), it's a good idea to book in advance to ensure the availability of guides and resources tailored to your interests.

Last-Minute Availability: Some tour operators may offer last-minute deals or availability, especially if there are spots left closer to the tour date. However, this can be riskier, as popular tours may be fully booked.

Weekdays vs. Weekends: Weekends can be busier than weekdays for day tours, so booking ahead for weekend tours is advisable.

Local Holidays and Events: Be aware of local holidays and events that might affect tour availability. During major festivals or local celebrations, tours may be in higher demand, so booking in advance is wise.

Personal Preferences: Consider your own comfort level and preferences. If you prefer to plan your trips well in advance to have everything organized, booking early is a good choice. On the other hand, if you're more spontaneous and flexible, you might be more comfortable booking closer to your travel date.
