Itinerary
In the morning we begin our tour with the first area chosen by the Egyptians to build a pyramid. Built by Imhotep, Imhotep is among the few non-royal Egyptians who were deified after their deaths, and until the 21 Century, he was one of nearly a dozen non-royals to achieve this status.
Djoser (c. 2670 BCE) was the second king of the Third Dynasty of Egypt and the first to build in stone. He was considered the founder of the third dynasty and the Old Kingdom. Prior to Djoser's reign, mastaba tombs were the customary form for graves: rectangular monuments made of dried clay brick which covered underground passages where the deceased was entombed.
Since the Saqqara area is teeming with explorations, your tour will include entry to the pyramids of Teti and Unas to see the pyramids. Your trip will also allow you to see some of the mastaba of Unas’ judges and ministers, such as the mastaba of Inferet and Kagmene Nkawasse.
After this intense journey, you will need a hearty meal to fuel your energy and complete the funerary complex of the Giza Pyramids. You will visit the first pyramid. The last major pyramid of Giza was built for Menkaure, son of Khafre, sixth ruler of the Fourth Dynasty. It is the smallest of the three pyramids of Giza and shows the beginning of the decline in workmanship in the Egyptian pyramid building. The level of detail is not as high as it was on the previous pyramid. The mass of the pyramid represents only about 1/10th of the mass we find in the Great Pyramid. It occupies a mere quarter of the area covered by Khafre and Khufu's pyramids.
