Overview

Egypt, a country of multiple civilizations and burning cultures is buried in every inch of its territory with endless secrets and priceless historical stories, as it abounds with many museums that captivate the minds and dazzle the eyes. We'll take a tour of Egypt's most prominent museums and learn about what each one has to offer as a glimpse into our great history.

The National Museum of Civilisation has extensive spaces for temporary exhibitions, as well as a hall for research, education, and research, an exhibition highlighting the development of New Cairo, and serves as a venue for hosting film screenings, conferences, lectures, and cultural activities for local and international audiences The museum's site overlooks a natural lake, Lake Ain al-Sira.

The museum is housed in Abdeen Palace, built in 1928 by order of King Fouad I, who was an avid collector of weapons. Kings Fuad and Farouk collected the museum's collections by buying some of them from international auctions, while others were gifts from kings and presidents of the world and others were inherited from their great-grandfather Muhammad Ali.

One of the museum's most prominent collections is a set of swords gifted to King Farouk on the occasion of his marriage, including a solid gold sword inlaid with diamonds, a gift from King George VI of England on the day of the King of Egypt's wedding to Queen Farida.

Itinerary

You will visit the most famous and important museums of Greater Cairo today. Our driver is an expert, so he will pick you up in front of your hotel in Alexandria and head to Cairo for around two and a half hours.

You will visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which is located near the Babylonian fortress in the heart of the historical city of Fustat in the old Egypt District of Cairo. The choice of Fustat City to be the headquarters of the museum was well thought out, as its geographical surroundings include monuments of different civilizations, it is the best evidence of religious tolerance in Egypt, the cradle of civilizations.

The Babylonians settled there after landing in Egypt, and the Pharaohs used it as a location for a sizable metropolis. Later, the Romans used it as a base for their defense, where they would worship on the sea and tribal sides and pay off any outsiders who attacked Egypt. Then the Jews and Christians took it as a headquarters to establish their rituals as well. After the Islamic conquest, Amr ibn al-Aas took it as a capital and a migration house for Muslims. The site of the museum is also characterized by a rare natural lake, Ain el-Sira Lake, the only lake remaining in Cairo after the disappearance of many other lakes.

You will be transferred to the Egyptian Museum. The story of the museum's foundation began with the great global interest in Egyptian antiquities after the deciphering of the Rosetta Stone by the French scientist Champollion. The first nucleus of the museum was a small house at the old Azbakiya pond, where Muhammad Ali Pasha ordered the registration of fixed Egyptian antiquities and the transfer of valuable antiquities to the Azbakiya Museum in 1835, and assigned their management to Youssef Dia Effendi, under the supervision of Rafah El Tahtawy.

After lunch, you will visit Abdeen Palace is located in Cairo, the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt; it is located on Republic Square, and close to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Our driver and guide will return you to your Alexandria hotel at the end of this exciting day.
