Luxor East Bank and Banana Island Trip

Overview

Today we will enjoy a unique tour inside the eastern mainland of Luxor, the city of the great pharaohs. During the day we will have the opportunity to explore two of the greatest and most prestigious temples in Luxor, starting with a visit to the Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex in ancient Egypt, where we will wander between majestic edifices and giant halls such as the Great Hall of Columns, which includes more than 130 towering columns, and learn the secrets of inscriptions and drawings that tell of the greatness of the pharaohs and their religious rituals.

Then we will move to the Luxor Temple overlooking the Nile Corniche, where the fragrant history blends with the beauty of the river scene, to experience the holiness of the location, which served as the focal point of significant religious festivals like the Feast of the Opts, and to view the statues of Ramses II and the pharaonic obelisk.

After a journey filled with the history of the pharaohs and the splendour of the architecture, we will take a peaceful stroll to Banana Island in the middle of the Nile, where we are surrounded by tropical greenery, banana and palm trees in a quiet rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There we will enjoy a cup of Egyptian tea or fresh juice in the midst of nature and feel the magic of Luxor from a different perspective that combines ancient history with the comfort of nature.

Itinerary

At the time agreed with your tour operator, our Egyptologist guide will be waiting for you at your hotel anywhere in Luxor to start your wonderful excursion with the visit of the east bank of Luxor, where you can explore two of the majestic temples, such as:

Luxor Temple:  Luxor Temple is among the most beautiful and eloquent temples in ancient Egypt. It is situated right on the banks of the Nile in the centre of the city, as we will explore the temple from the inside through the great gate built by Ramses II, where you will find in front of you his giant seated statues, as if guarding the place for thousands of years. On the side of the entrance stands an elegant pharaonic obelisk, one of two, as its sister was moved centuries ago to the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The edifices and halls decorated with inscriptions that tell the victories of the kings and their religious life will open before you, and the most prominent thing you will see is the Hall of Columns, characterised by rows of towering columns, then edifices surrounded by sphinxes that in the past stretched a long road connecting the temple to Karnak.

Karnak Temple: It is not just an ordinary temple but a whole city of temples, Its gates and structures, constructed over a period of more than two millennia, made it the most important religious site in antiquity and the place where the gods Amun-Ra, Mut, and Khonsu were worshipped. When you enter the main gate, we will be greeted by the Great Ram Road, a long corridor flanked by statues of rams' heads and lions' bodies, symbolising protection and power, and used to connect Karnak to Luxor Temple through huge ceremonies. inside Karnak, we will be impressed by the greatness of the Great Hall of Columns, which is one of the greatest architectural achievements in ancient Egypt, as it includes 134 enormous columns, some up to 23 metres high, and when you stand between them, you feel like you are in a giant stone forest that reflects the genius of the pharaohs in construction and decoration. The inscriptions on the columns and walls tell stories of military victories and religious rituals and reveal the power of the kings who added their touches to this edifice through the ages.

Following a tour that covers the history of the pharaohs and the architectural splendour, you take a leisurely walk to Banana Island in the middle of the Nile, where you are encircled by palm and banana trees and tropical greenery in a serene rural setting far from the bustle of the city. Enjoy a cup of Egyptian tea or fresh juice while taking in the scenery and experiencing Luxor's allure from a new angle that blends comfort in the middle of nature with ancient history.

Finally, you will be transferred to the drop-off location where we first met you.

In Egypt, as in the majority of European and North American nations, tips are warmly appreciated. The customary tip is 10% for guides and drivers, as well as in restaurants. Unfortunately, at well-known tourist attractions like the Pyramids of Giza and the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, touts aggressively solicit gratuities by allowing you to take photos in places where it is expressly forbidden (like inside the tombs). By not paying to snap images, kindly refrain from contributing to this issue.

Before Islam, Arabic was the primary language of Sinai and the Eastern Desert of Egypt. However, with the Muslim conquest of Egypt in the seventh century, Nile Valley Egyptians gradually embraced Arabic as a written language. They had previously only spoken Coptic Egyptian or Koine Greek.
