Dendera and Abydos Trip from Luxor

Overview

Through a full-day excursion, you will enjoy one of the most impressive adventures that form a very important part of Egypt's history. From Luxor, you will have the opportunity to explore Abydos is a city located west of Balina Sohag that was one of the ancient cities of Upper Egypt. Most archaeologists agree that it was the first capital of Egypt at the end of the Predynastic period and the first four dynasties, dating from 5,000 years ago. It is located between Assiut and Luxor, near Qena. Nowadays it receives the name of Araba buried (Balina) and is located about 11 kilometers from the Nile. The temple of Seti I and the temple of Ramses II are characterized by ancient Egyptian bas reliefs. This city was the main center of worship of the god Osiris. Ancient Egyptians made pilgrimages to the city to worship Osiris, guardian of eternal life and god of the West. The oldest vessels in history were discovered in the ancient tombs located west of the temple of Seti I, father of Ramses II, founder of the XIX Egyptian dynasty, famous for naming many of its kings until Ramses 11 with the name of the founder of the family.

We also take you on another adventure to Dendera. It is a Ptolemaic-Roman temple complex located in the village of Dendera, about 5 km northwest of Qena and 60 km north of Luxor. It is considered one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. Dendera was part of the sixth Egyptian province of Upper Egypt, south of Abydos, known as the Province of the Crocodiles.

During our tour, you will learn more about the history of the Light of Dendera, inscribed on the wall of the temple that gave it its name. It is the subject of many legends, one of which is that the Egyptians had light technology and discovered electricity. The image shows a lotus flower (neolofer) revealing a snake on the wall, the interpretation of which differs among archaeologists.

The original façade of the temple has recently been uncovered and reconstructed, revealing the two large edifices of the temple, while the space beyond is the location of the first courtyard and the second courtyard of the temple. They end with the facade of the temple and its current entrance with its square columns and walls, on which some of Ramses II's war events and his victories in Asia were painted in engraving. It was completed by Ramses II, but the part that was built during the reign of Seti was technically much greater than the part completed by Ramses II, and the temple of Abydos is different from the design of other Egyptian temples.

After that, you will have the opportunity to explore Dendera, Situated in the village of Dendera, approximately 5 km northwest of Qena and 60 km north of Luxor, is a complex of Ptolemaic-Roman temples.
